Inside the book

What you’ll find inside.

Everything new owners worry about, in the order it comes up: getting the house ready, the first night, house training, sleep and alone time, biting, socialisation, ten everyday skills taught with rewards, and a month-by-month map of the first year. Health questions are framed for you to take to your vet.

  1. Before you start

What the planner covers, how we train (reward-based, no punishment), and where your vet fits in.

  2. Getting ready

House rules, the puppy area, a shopping list and a room-by-room puppy-proofing checklist.

  3. The first 48 hours

The journey home, arriving, two good ways to handle the first night, and a simple two-day plan.

  4. House training

How often to go out, the routine at the toilet spot, accidents, signals and when to call the vet.

  5. Sleep, crates and alone time

A day built around naps, crate training step by step and a six-stage alone-time plan.

  6. Socialisation

The sensitive period, what good socialisation looks like, vaccinations and classes, and body language to watch.

  7. Biting, chewing and teething

Why puppies bite, what to do (and not do), safe chewing and keeping children safe.

  8. Training basics

Treats, markers and short sessions, then ten everyday skills from name response to loose-lead walking.

  9. Health and care with your vet

Questions for the first visit, everyday care, foods that are dangerous for dogs and signs to call the vet.

  10. The first year, month by month

What’s going on and what to focus on at 8–12 weeks, 3–4, 4–6, 6–9 and 9–12 months.

  11. Worksheets

Puppy profile, cue words, daily routine, potty log, three socialisation trackers (60 experiences), training progress, vet & care log, weight log, emergency info, monthly and first-year reviews.

  • Professional trainers looking for advanced methods.

Please note

This book offers general information about raising and training a puppy. It is not veterinary advice and doesn't replace a veterinarian or a qualified behaviour professional. Vaccination, parasite control, diet, neutering and any health or behaviour concern should be discussed with your vet. If your puppy is ill, injured or may have eaten something harmful, contact your vet or an emergency veterinary clinic straight away.

FAQ

Questions about this book.

Does it work for an older puppy or a rescue dog?

Yes. Start with the chapters that match where you are. House training, alone time, the ten skills and the trackers work at any age.

Does it tell me which vaccines my puppy needs?

No, and deliberately so. Schedules depend on your puppy, your area and your vet. The book gives you questions to ask and a log to record the answers.

Is it breed-specific?

No. It’s written for puppies in general, and points out where breed matters, for example exercise for large breeds.

What format are the books?

Each book is a PDF, designed at 6 × 9 inches so it reads comfortably on a phone, tablet or computer. Worksheets print well on US Letter or A4: choose “fit to page” in your print settings.

How do I get my book?

Right after payment you’re taken to a private download page. Download the PDF and keep it somewhere safe. Stripe also emails you a receipt.

I lost my download link. What now?
